Worship & Music
HPUC has a long history of attracting musicians of the highest caliber. Almost every service includes sacred music on our newly restored pipe organ. Throughout the year, we also feature a variety of special music from our members and invited guests. This includes sacred choral music, classical chamber music, spirituals and gospel, and sacred jazz. Recent guests have included the Willie Pickens Trio (Jazz), Justin and the Salty Dogs (Contemporary Bluegrass), EnsAmble Ad-Hoc (Early Music for Soprano and Lute), organist Dr. Stephen Alltop (Northwestern University), the Chicago Chorale, and the Marimba Ensemble from Holy Cross-IHM.
The Senior Choir is central to our Music Program and leads singing throughout the school year. The choir consists of dedicated volunteers from our congregation, anchored by a professional quartet of paid soloists who also serve as section leaders. The choir sings anthems and benediction responses from a wide range of traditions and periods.
The season begins with rehearsal on the first Thursday after Labor Day and runs approximately 40 weeks. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings, 7:30-9:00 p.m., with a pre-service warm-up and rehearsal on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. The choir also sings special services for Christmas and Holy Week.

The Choir accepts new members at any time, and we’re always eager to include new musicians in worship. If you sing or play an instrument, and you would like to participate in our music program, please contact our Music Director – Jade Maze, jade(at)hpuc.org – for an audition appointment.
